The Payne House appears to date as far back as the early 1800s when Warm Springs was a bustling village with large hotel,spa scene and coach traffic headed west.

Now it occupies a quiet corner next to Gristmill Square. Warm water from the historic thermal springs flows through the back yard as a tumbling brook. The home was completely renovated in 2005 with all new wiring, plumbing, heat, A/C, tiled baths and copper roof. Four french doors open the kitchen and breakfast area onto a large wrap around porch focused on the stream and old waterwheel of the adjacent mill. There are three fireplaces, one of which is in the large master suite sitting room upstairs. There is an additional guest bedroom and two baths.
